At Last….Summer Is Here!

At last, summer is here. For how long though.

One of my jobs is painting and repairing the beach huts not far from where I live. Now and then, I, along with my friend Jack, who is a 74 year old ex-fireman, build beach huts.

Jack is amazing. Out of the 180 huts (I get admonished for calling them huts, they are chalets…..) along our stretch of beach, Jack has built 150 of them. He remembers the year each one was built. He has no plans set down on paper. He has no quantities of wood set down on paper and yet the offcuts are inches. If it were left entirely to me, there would be yards of wood left over. But, I am learning and will soon have it off pat for when he retires.

Now the weather has turned warmer, people are starting to come and spend time at their chalets and I will be busy repainting them. Along with my part-time tree surgery, I get very busy during the summer months. Only time in the evenings to work on my Internet Marketing. Still, I would rather be busy than not have anything to do.

September, I give hedge-laying demonstrations at the Country Fairs. Something I learned while at Countryside Management College. I met an amazing guy at one of these country fairs. He lives in a yurt and is the most amazing woodturner I have ever seen. He uses a sapling, a length of twine and a frame with a foot pedal and a turning bar. He wraps the twine around the turning bar, ties the loose end to the foot bar and the other end of the twine to a sapling. Using this contraption he can make the most amazing, ornate and delicate pieces of woodwork craftsmanship which he sells and makes a living that way. I hope I am putting his sort of passion for fine detail into my internet marketing endeavours.

All this is a far cry from the typesetting and old-school graphic design (without computers) that I trained for in my early days. I suppose I should have stuck with graphic design, but the Apple Macs in the early 90’s scared me. They were the monsters that was going to put me out of a job. And they did. Too many people were buying their own PCs and doing the typesetting and graphic designing for themselves. At the time, not high quality that we were used to. But things have definitely improved.

It wasn’t only the invention of PC’s which made me pack up the work I was doing. I felt as if I were being stifled and suffocated and I KNEW there was more to life than working a 9-5 job, so I packed it all in and went off on my travels. We only get one shot at this life, so it is up to us to make it the best it can be.

I really enjoy my life now.

We read, daily, about internet marketers who make huge, obscene amounts of cash through their internet marketing efforts. And, there are different channels used to make this happen. I firmly believe that there is enough room on the internet for many many more entrepreneurs. After all, it is not as if we are in the same town trying to compete with somebody next door. Our marketplace is worldwide.

With focus, the right guidance and determination, I see no reason why somebody cannot make some sort of income from the internet. It may be a small income to start off with, but who knows, you too could be earning obscene amounts of cash and living the life of your dreams.
